How are Applications Selected?

Applications are selected based on a number of factors, which may include:

  • Preferences or priorities as communicated through WA EMD Announcements and/or Federal Notices Of Funding Opportunities (NOFOs)
  • Location – Typically projects in locations that experienced the disaster have preference.
  • Particular WA EMD emphasis on a type of project or hazard, such as flood mitigation
  • FEMA designates portions of the funding for specific categories, such as “Planning,”so WA EMD attempts to maximize it’s use of these funding categories.
  • Completeness (readiness) of sub-application materials
  • Lastly, the combination of projects that “fit” in order to maximize the dollars that are available to our partners.

The Grant Coordinator assigned to your sub-application remains the best source of information on the status going forward. Please direct questions to the Grant Coordinator that you have been working with on your application.
