Rumor Control

This page may be utilized during an activation to talk about rumors that we want to clear up.

For our agency's social media pages, please visit this page.

There often are many rumors and scams after an incident. Do your part to stop the spread of rumors by doing three easy things:

  1. Find trusted sources of information.
  2. Share information from trusted sources.
  3. Discourage others from sharing information from unverified sources.

A yellow graphic says: Before you share, think: WHO made it? WHAT is the source? WHERE did it come from? WHY are you sharing this? WHEN was it published?

Community Action Agencies in flood impacted areas are also assisting with recovery and emergency needs. Just be cautious about what you give and to whom. See this fraud advice from the Washington Secretary of State and the Attorney General's Office:

Help fight disaster scams and fraud

From the state Department of Labor & Industries: Disasters are notorious for attracting scams and frauds. You can help by carefully reviewing information we share with you whenever workers apply for benefits. If you don’t recognize the claimant or what they’ve submitted in the benefits application, please use the fraud report form for employers.
