Personnel Accountability and Assessment Systems
When disasters strike, they don’t discriminate. Anyone can be a victim – including our highly trained Soldiers and Airmen and their loved ones. To ensure the safety of our Military Family, and assess any needs following a catastrophic event – all Soldiers and Airmen are urged to become familiar with the Army Disaster Personnel Accountability and Assessment System (ADPAAS) and the Air Force Personnel Accountability and Assessment System (AFPAAS). Both are tools to help the military account for our personnel, as well as assess and monitor the recovery process for those Soldiers, Airmen and their families affected by a disaster.
Both systems have been successfully used after numerous real-world disasters. ADPAAS was just used in July of 2015 to account and track the evacuation of Army families during the Wenatchee wildfires. Additionally, they were both used in larger events such as the 2011 Japan earthquake and again in 2012 when Hurricane Irene hit Puerto Rico.
Washington National Guard leaders believe these systems are proven tools to quickly collect and consolidate the status and needs of our Airmen, Soldiers, and their families. The data you provide allows us to ensure that you and your family are OK and accounted for following a disaster, and helps us understand what you may need to fully recover. We may be able to provide housing assistance, medical care, financial assistance, employment help, pay and benefits, transportation assistance, child care, counseling and help with general legal matters.
“The men and women of the National Guard are my extended family,” said Major General Bret Daugherty, The Adjutant General for Washington State. “I want to make sure they’re accounted for and supported following a disaster. These tools provide us with information that help us understand what resources are needed – and provide families with the peace of mind they will be taken care of following a catastrophic event.”
We can only ensure accurate and timely accountability of our Soldiers, Airmen and their families if everyone knows how to use the system before disasters strike. To learn more about ADPAAS visit https://adpaas.army.mil. To learn more about AFPASS, go to https://afpaas.af.mil.
