Arkansas soldier killed in Iraq

SPRINGDALE, Ark. — An Arkansas family has lost a relative to the war in Iraq.

Army Staff Sgt. Christopher J. Vanderhorn, 37, of Bellevue, Wash., died Sunday in Sinia, Iraq, when a roadside bomb exploded near his Humvee.

Vanderhorn was married to Teresa Graham Vanderhorn, who graduated from Springdale High School in 1987 and the University of Arkansas in 1997. Teresa Graham’s father, Jerrel Graham, and her stepmother live in Huntsville. Her brother, Tony Graham, lives in Farmington. Her mother is deceased.

Christopher Vanderhorn served more than seven years in the military before re-enlisting in 2004. The Vanderhorns were married in 1991. They had two children, Max, 5, and Liam, 4 months.

Vanderhorn was a member of the 1st Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division out of Fort Campbell, Ky.
