Command Chief Master Sergeant Marvin Boyd
Chief Master Sgt. Marvin J. Boyd is the Command Chief Master Sergeant for the Washington State Air National Guard, at Camp Murray, Wash. As the State Command Chief Master Sergeant, he provides enlisted oversight to the Washington Air National Guard Commander for more than 2,000 enlisted personnel to execute mission requirements in partnership with unit leadership while working to improve unit effectiveness and efficiency by interpreting and enforcing policies and force management. Chief Master Sgt. Boyd advises the commander on health, welfare and morale of the enlisted Air National Guard force within the state of Washington. He is responsible for providing the Commander with the enlisted perspective on strategic vision, training, goals and objectives, and enlisted professional development. Chief Master Sgt. Boyd also coordinates with other military agencies, commanders, and senior enlisted personnel on matters pertaining to the Mission Support Group’s responsibility, vision, core values, commander's intent and enlisted utilization.
Chief Master Sgt. Boyd began his career enlisting in May 1987 in the United States Navy. In April 1988 he was assigned to Naval Hospital Pensacola, Fla. In October 1988 he was assigned as the Senior Medical Department Representative for VA-165 at Whidbey Island. Being attached to ATKRON 165 he had the pleasure to serve on USS Nimitz CVAN-68 and USS Constellation CV-64. He was responsible for medical and dental prevention and treatment of seaman assigned to the squadron. In November 1990, he transferred to Navy Reserves, Fleet Hospital 500 CBTZ 9 DET J, based in Spokane, Wash., where he was an Aerospace Medicine Technician (NEC-8406) and latter obtained NEC-8466 for Physical Therapy Technician. During that time, he supported Operation Desert Shield/Storm. In November of 1996 he transferred to the Washington State Air National Guards’ 242nd Combat Communications Squadron where he held different positions and responsible for education and training of 3C0X1 personnel. He helped and managed in four different transitions from Message Distribution Terminal (MDT) to Stand Alone Message Processing System (STAMPS), STAMPS to Defense Messaging System (DMS), DMS to Theater Deployable Communications-Integrated Communications Access Package (TDC ICAP) equipment and large communication package to the medium communication package.
Prior to assuming his current position Chief Master Sgt. Boyd, in October of 2015, helped stand up the 194th Mission Support Group as the senior enlisted advisor for 238 enlisted personnel to the 194th Communication Flight, 194th Force Support Squadron, 194th Logistics Readiness Squadron, 194th Security Forces Flight, and 248th Civil Engineer flight.
