State Human Resources
The Washington Military Department employs approximately 380 permanent state employees to support its major operational divisions, including the Emergency Management Division, Army National Guard, Air National Guard and the Washington Youth Challenge Academy. These divisions utilize state and federal resources to perform homeland defense, homeland security, and emergency mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery activities. The majority of our state employees work at Camp Murray in Lakewood, approximately 15 miles north of Olympia. We also have employees in Tumwater, Olympia, Port Orchard, Bremerton, Kent, Seattle, Spokane and Yakima. Additionally, we hire project, non-permanent and disaster reservists, as needed, to support disaster recovery efforts and/or workload peaks.
