Working as a state employee for the Washington Military Department
The Washington Military Department is an exciting and rewarding place to work. We employ approximately 280 permanent state employees in a variety of job occupational categories. Additionally, we hire project, non-permanent, and disaster reservists, as needed, to support disaster recovery efforts and / or workload peaks.
The Washington Military Department has four major operational divisions: Emergency Management, Army National Guard, Air National Guard and Joint Services. These divisions utilize state and federal resources to perform homeland defense, homeland security, and emergency mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery activities.
The Department has a strong culture of service. Our mission is to protect the citizens of Washington, their property and the environment on a twenty-four hour a day basis and to provide trained military units in support of civil authorities for domestic emergencies and in support of federal combatant commanders for national defense and homeland security missions.
The majority of our state employees work at Camp Murray, which is located in Lakewood around 15 miles north of Olympia Washington. We also have employees in Anacortes, Centralia, Everett, Olympia, Port Orchard, Snohomish, Spokane, Tri Cities, Vancouver, and Yakima.
The majority of our positions which are located outside of Camp Murray are in our trades job classifications.
